At Kviknes Hotel, the tradition of hospitality dates back to 1752. The Kvikne family, who now own the hotel, took over in 1877. The hotel was built in the Swiss style, and has retained its distinctive character even after several renovations and expansions.

The hotel is idyllically situated by the Sognefjord in a national romantic setting. The list of prominent guests at Kviknes Hotel is very long. Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany was a frequent guest in Balestrand. In addition, royalty, emperors, presidents, prime ministers, movie stars and artists from many countries can be found on the guest list.
