Experience the arctic capital

After arriving and settling in, take a moment to unwind from the journey. Later, meet your private guide in the hotel lobby for an introduction to Greenland’s vibrant capital.

In the eyes of Greenlanders, Nuuk—with its 17,500 inhabitants—is a metropolis. The city stretches for miles, expanding steadily as new neighborhoods rise against the Arctic backdrop. As you set out on foot, you’ll step into a world where tradition and modernity intertwine.

Strolling past Nuuk’s colorful 17th- and 18th-century houses—still very much in use today—you’ll get a sense of the city’s deep-rooted history. At Kalaaliaraq, the traditional market, tables brim with freshly caught fish, seal, and reindeer. The air carries the salty scent of the sea, mingling with the rich aroma of local delicacies. Try a bite of Greenlandic fare and experience the flavors that define Arctic cuisine.

If history calls to you, a visit to the Greenland National Museum offers a glimpse into the past. Here, ancient artifacts and well-preserved remains of Greenland’s earliest civilizations bring the stories of the Arctic to life.

As you continue through the city, you’ll pass Hans Egede’s house and his statue near Greenland Cathedral—symbols of a complex and evolving history. Your guide will share the tales of resilience and exploration that have shaped this remarkable nation.

Your tour concludes back at your accommodation, where the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

Private guided walking tour, Ilulissat

After arriving and checking in, take a moment to settle in before meeting your private guide in the hotel lobby. From here, set off on a walking tour through the charming streets of Ilulissat.

The town’s name means “icebergs,” a fitting tribute to its location beside the Ilulissat Icefjord—Greenland’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. No matter where you stand, you’ll catch sight of towering ice formations drifting through the fjord. These icebergs, some as large as city blocks, break away from Sermeq Kujalleq, the northern hemisphere’s largest and fastest-moving glacier.

Ilulissat’s story stretches back over 4,000 years, and your guide will bring its past to life as you explore this Arctic gem. Wander through the historic heart of town, where brightly painted houses contrast with the icy landscape. If art calls to you, visit the Ilulissat Art Museum, housed in the former residence of the colony manager. The gallery showcases striking works from local artists and renowned Greenlandic painters.

To dive deeper into the town’s heritage, stop by the Ilulissat Museum, named after Greenland’s legendary explorer Knud Rasmussen. Here, captivating exhibitions reveal the region’s history, culture, and the lives shaped by this icy frontier.

Ice Fjord Experience - Ilulissat

After breakfast, meet your captain for an unforgettable journey through Ilulissat’s Icefjord.

From land, the fjord is mesmerizing—but from the water, it’s something else entirely. As your boat weaves through a maze of luminous icebergs, you’ll see their sheer scale up close. Some tower over 100 meters high, stretching hundreds of meters in length.

The ice is never static. It shifts and groans, constantly reshaping itself. On clear days, it glows a brilliant, chalky white, casting sharp contrasts against the Arctic sky. When clouds roll in, deeper shades of blue emerge, revealing intricate patterns and textures within the frozen sculptures. And under the midnight sun, the ice blushes in soft pinks and golds, turning the fjord into a dreamscape.

No two sailings are ever the same. The currents, the wind, and the movement of the ice mean that each journey unfolds in its own way—an ever-changing Arctic masterpiece.

Did You Know?

The hotel is located in a quiet place in first row to the sea. There are good chances to see the huge whales up close in the Disko Bay. The whales often get close to shore and thrive in most parts of the bay, especially the area just outside of Ilulissat attracts the huge whales.

Whale Safari Adventure, Ilulissat

After breakfast, meet your local captain in the hotel lobby and step aboard for an unforgettable journey through the icy blue waters of Disko Bay. This region is famous for its towering icebergs, but in summer, it also becomes a gathering place for some of the ocean’s most magnificent creatures—whales.

As the ice melts and the bay opens, these gentle giants return. Your captain will share stories of their migration, behaviors, and the telltale signs to watch for. Out on the open water, when the engine quiets, a hush falls over the boat. You scan the horizon, every sense on high alert. Then, a sudden burst of breath—a plume of mist rising from the sea. The spell is broken, and the thrill begins.

Perhaps it’s a sleek minke whale, a powerful fin whale, or, if luck is on your side, a humpback. Known for their acrobatics, these giants defy their size as they breach, twisting high above the waves before crashing back into the sea. The experience is raw, unpredictable, and deeply moving.

Back at the hotel, take some time to unwind. The next adventure is just around the corner.

Private helicopter tour, Ilulissat

Now that you’ve explored Ilulissat on foot, it’s time to see it from a new perspective—the sky.

Lifting off from Ilulissat Airport, the town quickly shrinks beneath you, its colorful houses dotting the rugged coastline. Then, the landscape opens up, and you’re soaring over the wild Arctic. Below, the icy expanse of Disko Bay stretches endlessly, its floating icebergs like frozen sculptures in a sea of deep blue.

Your flight takes you over Sermeq Kujalleq, the massive glacier that feeds the Icefjord. As the pilot descends to a safe altitude, you get a closer look at this powerful force of nature—an endless expanse of ice fractured by deep crevasses and streaked with meltwater rivers carving their way toward the sea.

The helicopter touches down on a remote mountain plateau beside the Ice Cap. Here, with nothing but ice and sky around you, the silence is almost surreal. Step onto the ice, feel its ancient surface beneath your feet, and take in the sheer vastness of the frozen wilderness.

After 30 minutes in this pristine Arctic landscape, the return flight offers one last sweeping view of Greenland’s untamed beauty before bringing you back to Ilulissat.

Boat trip to Egi Glacier

After breakfast and check-out, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby for a short walk to the harbor. Here, the next chapter of your Arctic journey begins.

Step aboard and set course north toward Eqi Glacier, one of Greenland’s most active and dramatic ice formations. Known as the “calving glacier,” Eqi puts on a mesmerizing display as towering ice walls crack and collapse into the sea, sending deep echoes through the fjord. The journey itself is just as enchanting. Along the way, you’ll pass tiny settlements nestled into the rugged coastline, steep mountain slopes covered in wild greenery, and waterfalls tumbling into icy waters. Icebergs, sculpted into surreal shapes and shades of blue, drift silently by. If luck is on your side, you might even spot a seal lazing on the ice or a whale surfacing in the distance.

As you approach Eqi, the sheer scale of the glacier comes into view. The boat will slow, allowing you to take in the stillness—until, suddenly, a deep thunderous crack signals another chunk of ice breaking away. After time to absorb the beauty of this frozen world, you’ll continue toward your next destination—Glacier Lodge Eqi, your remote retreat for the next two nights.

Upon arrival, your camp guide will greet you with a warm welcome and lead you to your cozy cabin. After a short introduction to lodge life, the rest of the day is yours to explore, relax, or simply take in the Arctic silence.

Glacier Lodge Egi, Ilulissat

Enchanting stay at arctic wilderness

At Glacier Lodge Eqi, you step into the world of true polar explorers. This very spot was once the base of legendary French adventurer Paul-Émile Victor, whose old expedition hut—known as the French Hut—still stands here. Between 1948 and 1953, Victor led groundbreaking explorations of the Greenland Ice Sheet, leaving behind traces of a bygone era.

Your cabin, perched at the edge of the glacier, offers a front-row seat to nature’s most powerful spectacle. Here, time slows. Some guests choose to simply be—sitting on the terrace with a warm drink, breathing in the crisp Arctic air, or unwinding in the sauna while watching the ice shift and shimmer in the distance.

For those drawn to adventure, the surrounding wilderness offers an array of hikes, ranging from gentle walks to challenging treks. Follow in Victor’s footsteps on a guided hike to the ice sheet, where remnants of his tracked vehicles and transport cables still lie scattered along the route. At the edge of the vast, white expanse, you’ll get a true sense of the scale of Greenland’s untamed landscapes.

And then, there’s Café Victor—the heart of the lodge. Despite being “in the middle of nowhere,” the kitchen team takes pride in serving meals that surprise and delight. Using as many Greenlandic ingredients as possible, they craft dishes that feel both rustic and refined. Here, over good food and great company, the Arctic experience truly comes to life.

Day at leisure, Glacier Lodge Egi

Today you have whole day to spent at leisure.

You may wish to enjoy the arctic wilderness at your own peace or go for an outdoor adventure.

We recommend to have a one of a scenic hike. Long and incredibly varied hike that offers several types of landscape: lush lowlands, windswept highlands, moraines and, not least, the Inland Ice Sheet with crevasses, streams and glacier wells. We follow Paul-Émile Victor's tracks all the way to the ice cap. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, tracked vehicles with supplies for Paul-Émile Victor's famous Inland Ice expeditions ran here, and today we can see the remains of their machinery and an old cable car. In a beautiful valley with a view of a dead glacier, we enjoy our lunch before hiking over the moraine and into the Inland ice sheet. This is the absolute highlight of the trip. Well spent, we are home late in the day for a well-deserved dinner.

When we write in the degree of difficulty that the trip is demanding, it is not because it requires special training in walking on ice or climbing. The trip is not technically difficult - but it is a long trip of 25 km, and we climb approx. 1000 meters of altitude, so you have to be in good shape.

Private guided hike to the glacier Moraine

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your cabin, ready to lead you on an unforgettable five-hour hike through raw Arctic terrain. This is your chance to get up close to the forces that have shaped Greenland for millennia.

The trail winds past the remnants of past expeditions—silent relics of those who came before, chasing discovery in this frozen frontier. Along the way, rushing glacial streams carve through the landscape, feeding into a tranquil lagoon where ice drifts lazily on the surface. The only sounds breaking the polar silence are the deep, thunderous cracks of the glacier shifting in the distance.

The final stretch is a steep climb, but at the top, the reward is undeniable—a front-row seat to the towering Eqi Glacier, where walls of ice stretch toward the sky. Here, with the Arctic wind on your face, you’ll pause for a well-earned break and lunch in one of the most dramatic settings imaginable. Keep your eyes on the ice wall—at any moment, a shard may break free, tumbling into the water with a resounding crash.

The hike ends back at the lodge, where a boat awaits to carry you across the icy waters, back to Ilulissat.

Departure Day

The Arctic air feels crisper this morning, as if the landscape itself is bidding you farewell. After breakfast and checkout, your private driver will be waiting outside, ready to take you to Ilulissat Airport.

As you drive through this remote and remarkable corner of the world, take one last look—the vast icebergs drifting in the fjord, the colorful houses perched against the wild terrain, the endless northern sky stretching beyond the horizon. These moments stay with you.

Soon, you’ll take flight, leaving Greenland behind—but a part of it will always travel with you.
