Private guided walking tour, Reykjavík, up to 2.5-3 hours

Discovering the charming streets of Reykjavík!

Today, you'll meet your private guide at the reception of your hotel. From here, together with your guide, you'll explore the heart of downtown Reykjavík for up to 3 hours. Your guide is knowledgeable and entertaining, and will adapt the tour to your interests and pace.

Your tour begins at Iceland's most iconic landmark, Hallgrímskirkja church, perched at the highest point in Reykjavik. From here, it's all downhill as you wind your way through the heart of the capital, discovering both famous attractions and hidden gems along the way.

As you stroll through downtown, you'll visit key landmarks including the striking Harpa Concert Hall with its glittering glass facade, the historic Parliament building (Alþingi) – one of the world's oldest parliaments dating back to 930 AD, and the charming City Hall overlooking Lake Tjörnin. You'll walk along Laugavegur, Reykjavik's main shopping street, explore the residential Þingholt neighbourhood with its colorful corrugated-iron houses, and pass by Arnarhóll hill and the Prime Minister's office.

Your guide will share the fascinating history of Iceland – from Viking settlement to modern independence – and explain how Reykjavik evolved from a small farming settlement to a vibrant capital city. Along the way, you'll hear captivating stories about Icelandic folklore and elves, learn about local cuisine (including a stop at the famous Bæjarins Beztu hot dog stand), and discover the city's thriving music and nightlife scene.

As you explore, your guide will point out some of Reykjavik's best street art tucked away in unexpected corners, and share insider tips on local habits, customs, and the unwritten rules of Icelandic life. This is your opportunity to ask all your questions about Iceland – whether you're at the beginning of your journey and looking for recommendations on restaurants, bars, and attractions beyond the city, or wrapping up your trip and seeking answers to questions that arose during your stay.

Your walking tour covers approximately 2 kilometers at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for photos and conversation. By the end, you'll have seen Reykjavik through local eyes and gained a true understanding of what makes this northernmost capital so unique.

Your tour will conclude back at your hotel or any other preferred location in downtown Reykjavik, leaving you perfectly positioned to continue exploring the city on your own with newfound confidence.

Friðheimar Geothermal Greenhouse & Restaurant

Taste the famous Tomato Soup

Nestled in the heart of Iceland’s stunning countryside, Friðheimar Greenhouse offers an unforgettable insight into the art of sustainable farming. Here, innovative geothermal technology allows for the year-round cultivation of the most flavorful tomatoes, despite Iceland’s harsh climate.

On your visit, you’ll learn about the cutting-edge techniques used to grow these exceptional tomatoes, such as harnessing green energy and pure spring water. The greenhouses are powered by renewable resources, and even the tomatoes are pollinated by dedicated bumblebees, contributing to their rich taste and quality.

Take a seat in the cozy greenhouse restaurant, where you’ll enjoy an extraordinary meal surrounded by the lush plants. The menu features a variety of dishes made with the freshest tomatoes grown on-site, including their famous tomato soup, served with freshly baked bread – a true highlight of this unique location.

Friðheimar also offers a glimpse into Icelandic culture with a visit to the stable, where you can meet the iconic Icelandic horses. Whether you’re savoring a meal or learning about sustainable farming, Friðheimar provides a one-of-a-kind experience that connects you to the land, the produce, and the people.

The Inside the Volcano Tour

To be able to experience this wonder, all you need is the willingness to do a moderate 45–50 minute hike (to get to the crater) and the guts to descend 120 meters/400 feet to the bottom of the crater in an open cable lift. The hike to the volcano is an integral part of the tour, not only because of the breathtaking scenery, but also because it’s one of only two ways of getting to the base of the volcano. The other option is to use a helicopter.

Supplied

  • All safety gear, helmets, harnesses, etc.

What do I need to bring?

  • Good shoes – We recommend wearing hiking boots on the tour since the trail is rocky and can get wet and muddy on a rainy day.
  • Outdoor clothing. The weather in the mountains can be very different from the conditions in the city. It’s important for guests to realize that the weather is very unpredictable, and you should definitely bring warm, rainproof clothes with you, even if the weather in Reykjavík is nice and the forecast looks good. Not least because it’s always the same temperature inside the crater – about 3°C (37°F). That’s cold!
  • A camera. You will want to remember this trip. Yes, you can take as many pictures as you want!
  • A good spirit. This tour is all about having fun.

The Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon, Grindavík

A Haven of Luxury and Relaxation

The Retreat Spa at Blue Lagoon opened in 2018 as part of Blue Lagoon’s expansion. It offers a mix of luxury and wellness in a special place built on an 800-year-old lava field.
The spa combines natural elements, careful design, and healing geothermal seawater to create a peaceful spot where visitors can relax, refresh, and explore.

The spa experience helps calm your mind and body. Guests move through volcanic rooms with steam baths, saunas, a cold plunge pool, and the warm waters of the Retreat Lagoon.
There is also a viewing deck and quiet spaces to reflect and connect with Iceland’s beautiful landscape.

The main feature of the spa is the Blue Lagoon Ritual, a three-step treatment using natural ingredients from geothermal seawater: silica, algae, and minerals.
Silica cleans and strengthens the skin, leaving it glowing. Algae nourishes and hydrates for a youthful look. Minerals gently exfoliate and improve circulation,
making skin healthier. This ritual is a relaxing and refreshing experience.

The Retreat Lagoon is a more private area of the Blue Lagoon with calm, mineral-rich water flowing through terraces of lava and open spaces.
Guests can enjoy the healing waters while enjoying Iceland’s volcanic scenery.

The spa also offers treatments like outdoor in-water massages in the lagoon and beauty therapies in comfortable, elegant rooms.
Other features include the Nest, a quiet lounge with hanging chairs and large windows, and the Lava Spring, where water falls softly
from above to create a calming atmosphere.

Most visitors spend 4 to 5 hours at the Retreat Spa to enjoy everything it offers. By combining luxury with Iceland’s natural beauty,
the Retreat Spa at Blue Lagoon provides a memorable experience that refreshes both body and mind.
