Throught the charming cobble-stoned streets of Bergen

The Fish Market in Bergen has existed since the 1200s and has since then been one of the most important places for trade between fishermen, farmers and the inhabitants of the city. In addition to the merchants on land there were also historically sales from boats along the quay. Fishermen who lived outside the city used to row into the Fish Market to sell their catch of the day before rowing back home the same day.

The Bryggen Wharf was established here in Bergen in the 12th century. Starting in 1360 the Hanseatic League, a guild of German merchants who dominated trade in Europe from the 13th to 17th centuries founded a Kontor (trading post) here and gradually came to control the Bryggen area until 1754. Though the buildings you see here today date from after the great fire of 1702, the architectural style has remained the same over time and is much older than the buildings themselves.

Whilst you explore the city, we suggest you visit the Schøtstuene, where you’d grasp an idea of the life and work of Hanseatic merchants on Bryggen from 1360 to 1761. These were the assembly halls of the Hanseatic merchants at Bryggen and have been part of the Hanseatic Museum since 1938. Schøtstuene consists of four living rooms and two cook houses. A unique medieval ruin, sheltered under Schøtstuene, has been made available to the public through its own exhibition through a glass floor.

You could also stop and admire St. Mary’s Church, dating back to 1170, and one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Norway. Pass by Koengen, which was once an army depot, and see the medieval Bergenhus Fortress.

During your walking tour (or after), you may also ride the Fløibanen Funicular Railway to the top of Mt- Fløien. This is one of Norway’s best-known attractions. Fløibanen can be found in the heart of Bergen, close to the fish market and the Bryggen wharf. The journey up to Fløyen Mountain (320 m above sea level) takes 5–8 minutes. The journey is an experience in itself and at the top, you can enjoy fantastic views over Bergen.

Your walking tour will end back at hotel, or any other location you prefer in downtown Bergen. After your tour, you may spend the rest of the day exploring Bergen some more on your own.

Øygarden archipelago is a coastal gem with over 10,000 years of history, rich in culture and breathtaking scenery.

Cliff-top hike and rappelling, Øygarden

in the Bergen archipelago

Your private, qualified instructors and guides will lead you on a memorable adventure: a thrilling cliff-top hike, similar to bouldering, across the rocky landscape at the southern edge of Øygarden. This exciting journey will take you over whale-like rocks, through narrow gorges, and into deep caves and passages. With three levels of difficulty available, the hike is tailored to suit a wide range of abilities, making it enjoyable for everyone, from children to older generations.

During the excursion, together with your guide, you’ll enjoy a rustic wilderness lunch. Afterward, you'll have the chance to challenge yourself by rappelling down a stone wall (optional). Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes with good grip and ankle support.

After lunch, you can continue your adventure by kayaking through the clear waters of the archipelago, approaching the final stretch of your tour.

Once your experience comes to an end, we'll drive you back to your accommodation. Thereafter, you may use the rest of the day to relax or continue exploring Bergen at your own pace.

Local cider tasting with lunch

This afternoon you will make your way to The Cider House (Ciderhuset). Here, you will enjoy a local produced cider (5x tastings) with a local lunch. Your experience will last about 1,5-2 hours.

The experience will start in the organic orchard at the Cider House. Sogn is the oldest fruit area in the country, and you’ll be shown that the taste starts with the small graft twigs stretching up towards the unique fjord light at the Sognefjord. The light that has inspired artists and adventurers for generations. Together, we’ll learn about basic apple cultivation and local tradition - our terroir through almost 1000 years! From here, you will move to the Cider House glasshouse, where you’ll taste 5 different ciders and learn that apple is more than just apple! You’ll become acquainted with the whole spectrum of flavors: sweet dessert apples, sour cooking apples, and bitter cider apples. Your tasting experience also includes a lunch plank with 5 small dishes that are adapted to each of the ciders to be tasted.

The Flåm railway has been voted one of the most beautiful train rides globally. During the train ride up the valley, you will witness rivers cutting through deep ravines, waterfalls cascading down the sides of steep, snow-capped mountains, and mountain farms clinging precariously to sheer slopes. Just before arriving at the Myrdal station, the train will do a short photo stop at Kjosfossen waterfall.

Linking Norway's two main cities, this line takes in some dazzling scenery, with the most spectacular stretch being the one over the Hardangervidda, Europe's highest mountainous plateau. Finse, at 1,222 meters above sea level, is the highest point on the line. Building work, which started in 1875, took 34 years to complete, an involved a workforce of some 15,000 men. The 182 tunnels were carved by hand.

Arriving at Oslo S Central, you will disembark the train and make a short walk to Amerikalinien Hotel, your accommodation for the next 2 nights.

Explore the city´s highlights

We recommend you visit Rådhuset (the City Hall). The construction started in 1931, but was paused by the outbreak of World War II, before the official inauguration in 1950. The building was designed by Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson, and it has been decorated by great Norwegian art from 1900-1950, with motifs from Norwegian history, culture and working life. The roof of the eastern tower has a 49-bell carillon which plays every hour. It is situated in Pipervika in central downtown Oslo. The area was completely renovated and rebuilt to make room for the new city hall, back in the late 1920s. In June 2005, it was named Oslo's "Structure of the Century".

You could also enjoy a stroll at Karl Johans Gate, the main thoroughfare of Oslo. This street contains many shops and places to eat. Stortinget (the Norwegian Parliament), the University and numerous parks line the street. This street also takes you to the National Palace, the Royal Residence, surrounded by lush gardens and historic charm.

You may wish to visit the Oslo Opera House, a home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. It is covered in white granite and Italian marble, and its angular exterior gives the appearance of rising from the sea. This magnificent building was designed by the Norwegian award-winning architectural firm “Snøhetta”, who also designed the Ground Zero Memorial & Museum in New York. Uniquely, you can walk on its roof for a nice view of the bay.

Your tour will finish at your hotel, or a location in the city center, and you may spend the rest of the day on your own leisure.
